Ameland is dog-friendly and welcoming
Your dog is welcome in many of our cottages, and this is always clearly stated. We also have several accommodations where multiple dogs are allowed. At Experience Ameland, you can choose from homes in the dunes, near the forest or close to the beach, with or without an enclosed garden. All perfect for an active holiday with your four-legged friend!
The villages have cosy terraces where your dog is welcome, and there is a vet available on the island for emergencies. Thanks to its clean beaches, quiet cycle paths and wooded walking routes, Ameland is a true paradise for dogs and their owners.
Be mindful of nature and each other
When walking your dog, it is important to respect nature. Avoid breeding areas to prevent disturbing nesting birds and other animals. After all, Ameland’s nature is their home.
Of course, also be considerate of other visitors and give each other space!
Where can my dogs be off-leash on Ameland?
Dogs are welcome everywhere on Ameland, provided they are kept on a leash. It is particularly important to keep your dogs on a leash during the breeding season (15 March to 15 July). Outside this period, dogs are allowed to run free in many places.
The off-leash areas on Ameland are:
- The Kwekerijbos in Nes
- Roosdunen in Ballum
- Near Koudenburg in Hollum
- On the beach, with the exception of bathing beaches and
the ”Groene Strand”
